Your payment methods pay for the LOCALACT services at each of your locations. Payments are processed securely by Stripe, and LOCALACT never stores your full card number or bank login. Each location has its own Default payment method, which is the one we charge, and can have an optional Backup.
Where to manage your payment methods
In LOCALACT, open Account > Payment Methods. This opens your Billing page, which lists each of your locations with its Default and Backup. A location without a Default shows Choose a payment method, and its invoices can't be paid automatically until one is set.
What you can use
You can pay with a US bank account (ACH) or a credit card. Only credit cards and verified bank accounts can be assigned to a location. Debit and prepaid cards aren't accepted.
When you add a payment method, you will see this disclosure:
By saving your payment method, you authorize future charges to it. Credit card payments may include a surcharge of up to 3%, not greater than our cost of acceptance. No surcharge applies to ACH payments. Canadian customers will not be surcharged on credit cards, but may incur ACH fees. You can remove or change your payment method at any time before your next charge.
Add a bank account
- On the Billing page, click Manage payment methods, then Add a payment method, and choose US bank account.
- Enter your email and full name.
- Choose how to connect your account. Select your bank, or search for it, to sign in and connect instantly. If your bank isn't listed, click Enter bank details manually and enter your routing and account numbers.
- After your bank confirms, return to LOCALACT, accept the bank account authorization, and click Save. Your bank account is not added until you finish this last step.
If you entered your details manually, Stripe sends a small deposit to your account, usually within 1 to 2 business days, and the account shows as Pending verification. To finish:
- Find the deposit on your bank statement. Its description includes a 6-character code that starts with SM.
- In LOCALACT, click Verify next to the pending bank account and enter the code.
Please verify within 10 days of the deposit. After that the verification expires and you will need to add the bank account again. A bank account cannot be assigned to a location until it is verified.
Add a credit card
- On the Billing page, click Manage payment methods, then Add a payment method, and choose Card.
- Enter your card number, expiration date, security code, country, and ZIP code, then click Save.
The country and ZIP code can't be changed after the card is saved. If they need to change, add the card again.
Choose the payment method for each location
On the Billing page, click the Default field for a location and select the payment method you want charged. Once a Default is set, you can choose a Backup the same way. If a card payment keeps failing, we automatically charge the Backup instead.
Every location must always have a Default. To switch from a card to a bank account, add the bank account first, set it as the Default, and then remove the card. To remove a payment method from your account, click Manage payment methods and click the trash icon next to it.
If a payment method you just added doesn't appear, click Refresh in the Manage payment methods window.
If a payment fails
If a card payment does not go through, it is retried automatically over about two weeks, and after several attempts the invoice moves to your Backup. You can fix it sooner by setting a working payment method as the location's Default. Any failed invoices for that location are then charged to the new Default right away.
